Since 1958, the Monterey Jazz Festival has been dedicated to changing lives through music and empowering young people to achieve their full potential. One way we fund the Monterey Jazz Festival’s education programs is by fundraising at our annual Jazz Legends award ceremony - this year called Jazz Legends Award, which is held every September. By supporting this event, you will help bridge the achievement gap in schools for students who need our support the most. The event traditionally sells out.
Jazz Legends Award will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the historic Barns at Cooper Molera in the heart of downtown, Monterey. The event has previously been held at Tehama Golf Club and The Inn at Spanish Bay. Individual tickets are $325, and table sponsorships are $5,000 (limited availability). Contact Katherine Torres for more information.
During the annual Jazz Legends Gala, the Monterey Jazz Festival honors one or two amazing performers with the Jazz Legends Award. Prior Jazz Legends include Dave Holland, Kenny Barron, Dianne Reeves, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, Chick Corea, Charles Lloyd, Wayne Shorter, Jack DeJohnette, Terence Blanchard, George Wein, Gerald Wilson, and Dave Brubeck.
This year, we will honor two very special jazz legends: Pat Metheny and Darlene Chan. The night ends with an intimate performance with a Monterey Jazz Festival selected musician, which is a great way to kick off the Festival weekend. Pianist and the Monterey Jazz Festival’s 2020 Artist-in-Residence, Christian Sands, will perform inside the Cooper Molera Barn at the 2020 Jazz Legends Award event. We hope you will join us!
