Monterey, Calif.; April 18, 2018; The Monterey Jazz Festival’s High School All-Star Band and Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble, with hand-picked musicians from Monterey County, will perform at the 25th Annual Rotary Concert at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Salinas on Thursday, May 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets begin at $20 and up and can be purchased on the Monterey Jazz Festival’s website at montereyjazzfestival.org.
“Monterey Jazz Festival is thankful to the Corral de Tierra Rotary Club’s 25 years of support,” said Colleen Bailey, MJF Executive Director. “Rotary’s Generosity has enabled Monterey Jazz Festival to provide our County students with access to professional-level training and music education.”
Each year, Monterey Jazz Festival selects top students from across Monterey County for middle and high school big bands and honor vocal jazz ensemble. Led by MJF Education Director Paul Contos (High School All-Star Band); renowned educator Dr. Rob Klevan (Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Middle School Band); and Mrs. Janice Perl (Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble), each all-star ensemble represents a cross section of Monterey County private and public schools on the Monterey Peninsula. Participating students in 2018 represent Carmel, Monterey, North Monterey, Notre Dame, Pacific Grove, Palma, Salinas, Stevenson, Trinity Christian, and York high schools. Previous tours for the Monterey County Ensembles have included the Kennedy Center and Bohemian Caverns in Washington DC; the Vancouver and Victoria International jazz festivals in British Columbia; Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle; the Jazz in the Woods Festival in Overland Park, Kansas; the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, Missouri; the Jazz Bistro in St. Louis; and many other locations in the United States and abroad.
