Next Generation Jazz Festival’s Friday Night Judges Concert Presented by California Jazz Conservatory, April 5, 2019 at Monterey Conference Center

Monterey, Calif; March 7, 2019: The Next Generation Jazz Festival (NGJF) kicks off its 49th edition with its annual celebration of the future of jazz with the Friday Night Judges Concert presented by the California Jazz Conservatory at the Monterey Conference Center’s Serra Ballroom on April 5, 2019.

The annual Judges Concert features the NGJF’s world-class adjudicators and clinicians, led by the Monterey Jazz Festival’s 2019 Artists-in-Residence, drummer Allison Miller and bassist Derrick Hodge.

The concert will also showcase the musical talent of Justin Kauflin, piano; Patrick Bartley, alto saxophone; Adam Larson, tenor saxophone; Lauren Sevian, baritone saxophone; Tanya Darby, trumpet; Steve Wiest, trombone; Russell Malone, guitar; and Michael Mayo, vocals.

Doors to the Serra Ballroom open at 6:45 p.m., with music beginning just prior to 7 p.m. from the Sheila del Bosque Quartet, from Berklee College of Music. The concert officially begins at 7:30 p.m. The concert will also be streamed live on MCAET TV on YouTube.

The concert is free to students and the public, but VIP/Gold Circle Tickets are available for $50 that include seating in the front rows and admission to an after-concert reception with the performers.

“The Friday Night Judges Concert features some of most prodigiously talented musicians and educators from New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, and elsewhere, and include alumni of MJF’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra,” said Paul Contos, MJF Education Director. “It’s an understatement to say how exciting this celebration of music is going be!”

The Monterey Conference Center is located at 1 Portola Plaza in Downtown Monterey, the home of the NGJF, which will showcase more than 1200 top students from the United States, Japan, Denmark, and Costa Rica in over 150 free shows throughout the weekend of April 5-7 at five locations in downtown Monterey.
