April 2, 2014; Monterey, CA; Today Monterey Jazz Festival announces the star-studded line up for the 57th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival to be held September 19–21 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds & Event Center. Arena and Grounds Package Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 12. Single Day tickets will go on sale June 26.

2014’s GRAMMY Award-winning lineup includes Arena headliners Herbie Hancock, The Roots, Gary Clark Jr., Michael Feinstein, Charles Lloyd Quartet, Booker T. Jones, Robert Glasper Experiment, Marcus Miller, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Billy Childs with special guests Shawn Colvin, Lisa Fischer and Becca Stevens, Aaron Diehl Quartet, Jon Batiste & Stay Human, and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.

98 shows and events will take place over 30 hours from Friday night, September 19 through Sunday night, September 21.

Drummer Eric Harland serves as the 2014 Artist-In-Residence, performing with the Charles Lloyd Quartet, his own group, Voyager; Sangam with Zakir Hussain and Charles Lloyd; and as a soloist with the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.

Legendary saxophonist Charles Lloyd returns to Monterey for the first time since 2006 as the 2014 Showcase Artist, performing with his own Quartet (with Jason Moran, Rueben Rogers and Eric Harland); Sangam with Zakir Hussain and Eric Harland, and in a duo with pianist Gerald Clayton.

The 2014 Commission Artist will be pianist Aaron Diehl, who will premiere his tribute to the pianist and MJF Artistic Director for 24 years, John Lewis, Three Streams of Expression.

The Festival features 500 artists, nearly 100 performances and events on 8 stages and more, for 30 hours of live music over two days and three nights, accompanied by an array of international cuisine, shopping, art exhibits, educational events, seminars and conversations with iconic and emerging jazz artists on the oak-studded 20-acres of the Monterey County Fairgrounds & Event Center.

New sales for Full Weekend Arena and Grounds Packages begin May 12. Arena Packages start at $290 and offer a reserved seat to each of the concerts on the Jimmy Lyons Stage in the Arena (renewable annually); access to seven Grounds stages and all Festival activities. Full Weekend Grounds Packages start at $125, and offer access to seven Grounds stages and activities, plus simulcasts of all Arena concerts in the Jazz Theater.

Single Day Arena Tickets include a reserved seat (non-renewable) for the Arena shows on the day selected, and are $71 for Friday and $142 for Saturday or Sunday. Daily Grounds Tickets start as low as $45, and include access to seven Grounds stages and activities, plus simulcasts of all Arena concerts in the Jazz Theater. Single Day Arena and Grounds Tickets go on sale June 26.

The Premier Club is the ultimate in hospitality at the Monterey Jazz Festival and is a perfect addition to the patron’s festival experience, starting at $65. Benefits include a furnished setting offering closed-circuit Arena simulcasts, visits by Festival artists, a no-host bar, buffet meal and non-alcoholic beverages, live music, and private restrooms. Arena or Grounds Ticket purchase is required.

Sunday, September 21 is the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Annual Family Day, featuring artists and activities especially for the family. Tickets on Sunday include access to the hands-on Instrument Petting Zoo Presented by Yamaha, the popular Percussion Playshop, a bounce house, special family-friendly musical artists, and performances from the world’s greatest young jazz musicians and vocalists from the 2014 Next Generation Jazz Festival Presented by Monterey Jazz Festival. Children two and under are free for Grounds admission daily at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Children ages 3-18 are just $20 on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
