“Partnering with Poppy Hills Golf Club on Blues in the Forest is a natural, as well as proven success from last year’s inaugural event, said Colleen Bailey, Monterey Jazz Festival Managing Director. “Working with General Manager Brad Shupe and his staff is a delight, along with their support of our education programs and all-star students. This is a joyous event on the Monterey Peninsula in a gorgeous setting, and the roster of talent for this year is a fantastic blues lineup!”

As part of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s year-round jazz education programs to enhance the musical training and experience of the most gifted young musicians in the County, the Monterey Jazz Festival’s High School All-Star Band and Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble offer 32 selected high school students the opportunity to study and perform at an advanced level to augment their respective school music programs. Participating students are selected by the professional jazz musicians and educators in the Jazz in the Schools program, and perform at various community and service organization events that take place throughout the year. Past musical tours have included performances at jazz festivals and other venues throughout Japan, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Each September, the All-Star Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble are featured in a final performance on stage at the Night Club during the annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Participating students in 2016 represent Carmel, Gonzales, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Salinas, Stevenson Upper, Trinity Christian, and York high schools.
