Monterey Jazz Festival’s year-round jazz education programs enhance the musical training and experience of the most gifted young musicians in the County through the Festival’s High School All-Star Band and Honor Vocal Jazz Ensemble, which provide 32 high school students the opportunity to study and perform at an advanced level to augment their respective school music programs. Participating students are selected by the professional jazz musicians and educators in the Jazz in the Schools program, and perform at various community and service organization events that take place throughout the year.
Past musical tours have included performances at jazz festivals and other venues throughout Japan, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Each September, the All-Star Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble are featured in a final performance on stage at the Night Club during the annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Participating students in 2017 represent the cities of Carmel, Gonzales, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, and Seaside.
